POINTS on the board is what Kendal spectators wanted to see and the team produced them for a comfortable 34-12 Powergen Cup win over Longton at Mint Bridge on Saturday.

Pace, particularly in midfield, gave Kendal the edge in this first-round tie as they ran in four tries to two and led 27-0 at half time.

Stand-off Stephens had a 100 per cent record kicking - he put over two penalties inside 13 minutes and then the tries came as Dan Bowman and Duncan Green both scored and then full back Simon Mullholland added a third before the break, all of them converted.

In the second half Mark Airey scaveneged a fourth try for a 34-0 lead before Kendal made changes due to injury and lost a bit of momentum.

Longton came back with two tries in a minute through Simon Price and Matthew Chambers, with Scott Rollins converting the latter to give their efforts some respectability.

But on the day the gap between National 3 North and Midlands 1, in which Longton play, looked a chasm.
