JAMES Ellison clinched the Superbike Cup, for independent teams and riders, in style with a winning double.
The Kendal rider finished first privateer in both races at the Oulton Park round of the British Superbike Championship The Team Jentin Yamaha rider finished ahead of nearest rival, Jon Kirkham in each race, to take the title with one round still to go.
The double European Superstock champion is now on the verge of motorcycling big time and is likely to ride in Moto GP, the equivalent of motor racing's Formula One, this Autumn.
n CRASHING out in the first two races in the Brands Hatch round severely dented Glyn Ormerod's chances of lifting New Era Superclub Championship.
The Burton-in-Kendal rider had scorched into pole position from the start, but lost the front end towards the end of the second lap.
Luckily he was unhurt and damage to his bike was superficial, but the crash put him 25th on the grid for the second race later in the day.
In the first race one championship rival Steve Tomes also crashed out, but another Rick Ellis finished in the points so Ormerod knew he needed a good result in the second race to keep his championship dream alive.
He rose magnificently to the challenge, carving his way through the field and chasing down rider after rider before bursting into the lead on lap four and holding on to take the chequered flag.
The victory takes him into a championship showdown at Donnington on October 16.
