JOHN Oates defends his PGA North Region Club Professional Championship title at Kendal this week - after an eight-years gap!
The tournament, on ice since 1996, has been revived thanks to £6,000 sponsorship by Bolton-based Marlborough Fund Managers.
Oates, pro at Renishaw Park, is in a 64-strong field which includes another past winner, Matfen Hall's John Harrison, and father and son Gordon and Joe Townhill who are incumbents at Kilnwick Percy and Brough respectively.
Hot favourite, though, is host club pro Peter Scott fresh from his victory in the PGA of Europe pro-am in Turkey early this month.
Other expected to be in contention in the 36-hole event which starts on Wednesday are Graeme Bell, a former De Vere Hotels PGA City of Leeds Cup winner from Eaglescliffe, and the consistent Adrian Ambler, from Walton Golf Centre.
