KENDAL County battled their way to three points with a 2-0 away victory at defending champions Wetheriggs in the Talbot Insurance Westmorland League's Saturday pro-gramme, but the gloss was taken off when they only drew 4-4 at Sedbergh Wanderers on Tuesday.
Wetheriggs missed a couple of good early chances and County keeper Richard Flaherty made a fine double-save to keep County on terms in the first half.
Instead, County led going into the break after a move down the right saw Ian Aplin combine with Paul Gratton, who crossed for Phil Hodgson to head into the top corner.
The second half followed the same pattern with County countering Wetheriggs' long-ball system well and Flaherty making another important one-on-one save.
With 10 minutes left County struck again, Shaun Palmer playing in the ball for Peter Nichols to flick on to the far post, where Ollie Wilson tucked it away from close range.
Unbeaten in three matches, Sedbergh Wanderers are knocking in the goals, scoring 11 so far and they shared the points in a 4-4 draw with Kendal County on Tuesday.
Striker Mike Harrison hit a hat-trick for Sedbergh, opening his account from a defensive mistake before County equalised through Gratton.
A well-worked Hodgson header from Aplin's pin-point corner was cancelled out as Sedbergh's Matt Parkin pounced on another loose ball to make it 2-2 at the interval.
Harrison added his second from the penalty spot to make it 3-2 for Sedbergh, but County levelled the scores again, Ryan Wallace's 25-yard effort squirming under the keeper.
At 3-3, County looked like go on to win, but Sedbergh's Harrison headed home before Craig Barnes, celebrating his 21st birthday, broke an ankle.
Not long afterwards a sending-off reduced Sedbergh to 10 men and this gave County encouragement to go on and make it 4-4 through Aplin's majestic 18-yard lob.
Promoted Ibis went to Sedbergh on Saturday and had a lot of early ball but could not make it tell and were 3-0 down at half-time to goals from Clyde Harris, Martin Cairns (pen) and Barnes.
Ibis again had plenty of play in the second half, as Sedbergh took their foot off the gas but it stayed 3-0 at the end.
Windermere shaded their visit to Staveley, winning 3-2 after Andy Ford hit the post and then headed in an opening goal for them Windermere relaxed and after 20 minutes an unmarked Staveley player levelled the scores.
Starting best in the second half, Windermere's Callum Thwaites hammered in from 20 yards only for a defensive error to let in Staveley to level a second time.
Windermere produced a last-minute winner when Jimi Wade's parried shot reached Jamie Parkinson, who slotted in for a well-deserved win.
Kendal Town Reserves chalked up their first points of the season on Tuesday night by beating Ambleside 2-0.
Jamie Wilson latched on to Dave Regan's through pass to open the scoring after 20 minutes and Kendal maintained their dominance and up-and-coming 16-year-old John Bentley hit an unstoppable 25-yard volley for the second goal 10 minutes before half time.
Ambleside rang the changes in the second half but never really troubled Town, for whom Steven Hodgson and Bentley were the pick of a good team effort.
Appleby gained a 1-0 victory at Coniston to open their account after goalkeeper Paul Crawford kept them in the contention.
Although they did not play to their best, Appleby produced the winning goal with 20 minutes to go.
In a tactical switch, right back David Fleming was moved to midfield and he burst in between two players to score with his first touch, a left-footed strike into the corner.
The match was held up for half an hour when Coniston keeper Paul Raven was concussed after falling badly in a challenge.
