North Ferriby United 6, Kendal Town 0.
Kendal Town 1, Gresley Rovers 2.
Kendal Town's dream start of two wins from two games turned into a bank holiday nightmare as they crashed to North Ferriby on Saturday and Gresely Rovers on Monday.
Town never looked like winning the match at Ferriby, but their problems were compounded when, two goals down going into the second half, keeper Mark Thornley was dismissed in the 53rd minute for bringoing down Gary Bradshaw.
Midfielder Dave Woodruffe took over between the posts, but could do nothing about the penalty and from 3-0 down and the home side rattled in another three for a flattering 6-0 victory.
For a full report see www.kendaltownfc.co.uk On Monday league leaders Gresley Rovers visited Parkside and the speed of their summer signings, Justin Rowe and Aaron O'Connor, proved too much for a Town side which had too few attacking options.
To often they resorted to lofting long balls into the box in the hope that Kenny Mayers, a proven goalscorer would do the business. He went close on eight or nine occasions, but could not make the breakthrough and in the 50th minute the speedy Rowe cut into the Kendal box and unleashed a shot which Thornley could only palm out into the path of Sean Gummer, who slotted the ball into the open goal.
On 66 minutes Ricky Mercer latched on to a good cross from right winger Peter Smith and his shot deflected off a Gresley defender for an equaliser.
Hopes of a revival were dashed just four minutes later, however, when a speedy attack and shot by O'Conner forced Mayers to head out from the six-yard box. The ball fell for Jamie Hood, however, and he lashed it back in for a winner which Gresley deserved on balance of play.
