WHILE Bradley Wiggins course record-holder for the Levens 10 - was winging his way to golden glory in Athens at the weekend, local cyclists were battling with the elements and each other closer to home.
Kent Valley Road Club's John Ingham rode 55mins 47secs in the Ferryhill Wheelers event at Crathorne in North Yorkshire on Saturday, an event won by Kevin Dawson in 51-37. Chris Anderson of the Lakes RC clocked 56-58 while his wife, Lindsay, rode 1-04-36. Kent Valley's Frank Kilburn did 1-09-37.
On Sunday, John Ingham was in action again in the Border City two-up 25 on the undulating A7 course north of Carlisle. He and his Lancaster CC partner Dave Chell clocked 58-15 for third place in an event won by North Lancs RC duo Stuart Whitehead and Peter Briscoe with 55-16. Barrow Central Wheelers Mike Speight and Graham Harcourt finished seventh in 1-00-13 and Kent Valley's Simon Harlow and Richard Belk finished eighth in 1-02-47.
The latest midweek club 10 at Milnthorpe was won by Douglas Davies in 22-22 from Steve Crook on 23-16 with Graham Harcourt (BCW) third on 23-26. Other leading times were: Andrew Barlow 23-30; Steve Hodgson 24-40; Tony Dixon 25-02; Kevin Preston 25-42; Karl Hutchinson 25-48; Bob Bagot 26-02; and William Sisson 26-52. The only woman rider was junior Charlotte Crook who rode 34-47.
