A RUN chase ended in a missed opportunity when Kendal finished on the same score as St Annes at Highbury Road on Saturday. St Annes made 163-4 with West Indies professional Jimmy Adams top-scoring on 54.
Kendal, who faced five fewer overs to get the target, ended level on runs at 163-3 with Pakistani pro Kabir Khan making 51.
Under the rules Kendal, collected four points for a losing draw - eight fewer than for the win.
There was a two-hour delay to allow the wet ground to dry and St Annes made a slow but safe start with 50 coming up without loss off 20 overs.
Openers Jimmy Adams and Danny Hagen went on to post 100 before the breakthrough came with Chris Miller catching Hagen at long-off off Khan for 39.
Nine runs were added when Khan trapped Adams for 54 off 97 balls, but Kendal let the home side off the hook in the closing stages.
From 116-3 St Annes added 47 runs for the loss of one more wicket off eight overs thanks in large part to Adrian Darlington (22) and Joe Davies (14 not out).
Kendal's run chase began well but they lost Ikram Ullah for 25 with the score on 40 when caught behind.
After Simon Little went six runs later, a third-wicket stand of 68 between Terry Hunte (49) and Kabir Khan (51 not out) put them back into the firing line.
Despite Hunte's dismissal, held at mid-on with the score on 117, Kendal .looked to be cruising in their bid to knock up 50 off eight overs. Lack of boundaries and a tight over then left seven wanted off the final over.
Davies was able to restrict the batsmen to six singles, however, as the scores finished level with Kendal on 163 with seven wickets standing.
n Kendal CC hosts a charity day on Sunday from noon onwards. Ten charities will have stalls.
Entry is free and there will be five-a-side football and kwik cricket matches.
