...but stale beer for Kendal KENDAL knew beforehand they were fighting something of a lost cause going into their final group match against Darwen in the Thwaites Smooth Beer Trophy on Sunday.
To progress would have required Kendal posting a massive score for the loss of few wickets, while other teams had to fall by the wayside too.
The scenario never looked like materialising as Kendal were shot out for 49 with Gareth Ashburner faring best on 10 in a woeful display as Gareth Cordingley took 4-8 and Jeff Hacking 3-9. Darwen, already assured of a semi-final place, knocked off the runs at 52-1 in 12 overs.
