A GOOD defensive display against old rivals Bamber Bridge was encouraging for Kendal Town in their last pre-season match.
The game was goalless, but Town created the scoring opportunities.
Now attention turns to the big UniBond League First Division kick-off on Saturday when Stocksbridge Park Steels provide the opening day opponents for the third year in succession.
Last year Town won 2-1, but they start without summer signings Lee Ashcroft and Ricky Mercer who are both carrying overs suspensions from last season.
Former Barrow striker Kenny Mayers is likely to play as lone striker with back-up from Dene Whittal-Williams and Lee Clitheroe.
Regular keeper Lee Ward is on holiday and misses the first three league games, so new signing Mark Thornley will be between the posts.
Stocksbridge have been strengthened by the acquisition of young striker Duncan Bray, from Sheffield FC where he scored 62 goals in two seasons, plus Worksop midfielder Steve Hawes, David McNicholas from Matlock and keeper Darren Horrigan from Lincoln City.
Kick-off at Parkside is at 3pm.
