Kendal Girls, bolstered by a few of their Cumbria colleagues, put up a creditable showing in the National Finals of the Lady Taverners' U15 Cup at Derbyshire Cricket Club.
Playing as North Regional winners against Lullington, from Derbyshire, Kendal hit the ball to all parts in their allotted eight overs, scoring 90-0, with Becky Daws and Stephanie Jones having to retire on 25 not out and Kirby Linton finishing with 18 not out. Lullington fought back hard with an opening stand of 60, but tight bowling from Rebecca Hughes and Laura Leyland saw Kendal through to a13-run victory.
Against a formidable Bath side Kendal batted first and good bowling restricted them to 42-3 with Kirby Linton again in the runs. Bath won in their seventh over.
In the play-off Kendal for third place Kndal scored 75, with Jones retiring on 25 again and Linton on 17not out. In a close finish Blyth, from Notts, won with two balls to spare. Annabel James deserved credit for a tight bowling display, ably backing up the more experienced Hughes and Jones. The girls can be well pleased with their performances in the second year of this prestigious competition where they finished both as North Champions and fourth in the country.
