BARROW were at Preston in the ECB Northern League and with professional Rawl Lewis again in great form, came away with a seven-wicket win.
Batting first, mid-table Preston scored 146, Akbar top scoring with 50, Lewis taking 4-52, Peter Lawson 2-24 and James Riley 2-15.
Barrow replied with 148-3, Lewis 66 not out, skipper Ian Allington 23 and Paul Wilcock 20 not out, Parekh taking 3-47.
n THWAITES North Lancashire and Cumbria Premier League eaders Furness had to settle for a wining draw at rejuvenated Higson Cup winners Millom after batting first to score 215-7.
Skipper Alan Sippy was again in blazing form scoring 101, Graham Dawson taking 3-51 and Gary Heasley 2-36.
Millom replied with 157-5, a fifth wicket stand between Graham Dawson (50 not out) and Glenn Clark (55 not out), the main feature, Phil Graham taking 3-13.
Cleator reduced Furness's lead at the top of the table to 11 points after they beat Carlisle by four wickets.
Put in by David Rooney, Carlisle could only muster 122-7, Tom Nightingale top scoring with 44, Elsroy Powell taking 2-26 and Ian Clark 2-28.
Cleator then scored a winning 125-6, Paul Nelson making 41 not out and Tony Stones 17 not out, Ronnie Kirk returning 3-22.
Haverigg got back to winning ways with a 33-run victory at Wigton after batting first to score 172-4, Junie Mitcham top-scoring with 92, Geoffrey Toyana taking 2-35.
Wigton were then dismissed for 139, Toyana scoring 44 as skipper Steve Chapman produced a superb spell of 7-36.
Lindal Moor visited Workington and came away with a losing draw after the home side scored 197-9, Gary James making 51 and Shaun Woolf 27, John Atkinson returning 5-43 and Esuan Crandon 2-52.
The visitors were within sight of a win when the overs ran out at 188-8, opener Wayne Herbert top scoring with 69, Paul Webster in support with 40, Andy Reed taking 3-32, Martyn Turner 2-18 and Simon James 2-21.
Keswick moved into third place after beating Whitehaven by sick wickets after the visitors had scored 232-4, Narsingh Deonarine 94 not out, Robert Smith 51.
Majid Jahangir blasted 111 and Chris D'Laney 35 not out in a winning Keswick total of 234-4, Dominic Chambers taking 2-30.
With five games left Vickerstown began their last ditch battle to avoid the dreaded drop into Division One with a 122 run win against a ten-man Cockermouth, soccer's early start biting already.
Vickerstown made 199-6, Cockermouth replying with 77 leaving Town three points adrift of next to bottom Carlisle.
