KIRKBY Stephen got back to winning ways in the Eden Valley League Division one with a four wicket win against Braithwaite, near Keswick, on Saturday.

It was Kirkby Stephen's first league win for several weeks and marked a return to form.

Bryn Davies produced a man-of-the-match performance, taking 4-19 in 10 overs in Braithwaite's innings of 94 all out.

On a deteriorating wicket, which had apparently been underwater just a few days previously, Kirkby Stephen struggled to reach their modest target and had made 38-4 after 20 overs.

But Davies then came to the rescue, top scoring with 42, including five 6s and two 4s before he was out.

That left Kirkby Stephen still needing 24 to win with wickets starting to run out, but Mike Watson kept the momentum going, steering his side to victory with a knock of 18 not out as Kirkby Stephen made 95-6.

Kirkby Stepnen are due to play Rockcliffe, near Carlisle, in a league game on Saturday.
