FOR the first time a four-wheel vehicle was seen on the famous Barbon hill climb course on the day which Westmorland Motor Club usually sets aside for two and three-wheel machines.
Eddie Redfern raced up the twisting track on his racing quad bike in a scene setter for what may well become a competitive class in future years.
Fastest man in the Percy Duff Barbon Sprint Hill Climb was on two-wheels, however, as Paul Jeffrey powered his way to the top in the 500-700cc motorcycle class in just 26.29 seconds. A large crowd basked in the sun to watch the action as five classes of motorcycles, two sidecar classes and a vintage section were put through their paces and the winners were: Motorcycles. Up to 250cc Peter Short; 250-350cc Robinson Simms; 350-500cc Glen Pool; 500-750cc Paul Jeffrey; 750-1300cc Sam Matthewman. Three-wheelers. Up to 750cc Eric Bannister; 750-1300cc Jason Reeve. Vintage machines Graham Rhodes.
