OPENING batsmen D. Hagen and J. Adams proved unmoveable as they hit a record breaking first-wicket stand of 259 for St Anne's.

It was not enough to shake Northern Premier League leaders Netherfield, however, who smashed their way to an eight-wicket win.

St Anne's won the toss and opted to bat on a wicket that was obviously full of runs.

As the Netherfield bowlers toiled in the sun Hagan and Adams made a slow start with just 30 runs from the first 13 overs and 54 from 20.

An acceleration towards the end of the innings saw them both carry their bats, Hagen for 105 and Adams 142 as St Anne's closed on 259-0 from 57 overs.

Netherfield openers Craig Walmsley and Chis Parry turned the tables with a stand of 113 from 22 overs before Walmsley was stumped on 86.

Parry and Gareth White took the score on to 188 from 36 overs when Parry was trapped leg before for 35.

When White was caught for 58 in the 39th over the match was finely balanced, but Dale Blenkenstein, 29 not out, and Grahame Clark, 33 not out, showed the strength of Netherfield's middle order as they knocked off the remaining 54 runs with two overs to spare.
