WHILE most people were relaxing in the weekend sunshine, Windermere man Terry Colley completed his challenge of running up 60 of the highest peaks in the Lake District to raise money for Windermere Manor's Action for Blind People Hotel.
After completing the gruelling course in 30hrs and 20mins with friends Eric Draper and John Fielding, Mr Colley said it all went well: "We did a bit better than expected and were up on our times.
"I'm feeling a bit stiff and sore and the worst bit was running up the drive at the end."
"It was an excellent weekend that will be in the memory forever. We even managed to get in one or two more peaks as well."
Terry, who works at the hotel, set himself the challenge to celebrate his 60th birthday and pay for a loop system in the hotel's reception rooms to help people who are hard of hearing.
He said: "I've not totted up all the money yet because I'm still collecting it, but I think it will come to just over £2,000 and that will be enough to pay for the loop system."
Mr Colley's route included Coniston Old Man, Crinkle Crags, Scafell Pike, Skiddaw and Helvellyn before returning back to the Windermere Manor hotel.
With only about eight hours rest at best, the keen fell runner said the challenge could not have been achieved without the help of the ground staff and his wife. He said: "Without the support of my wife and the help she gave me, letting me go out training, it would have been difficult to do."
