FURNESS had their eyes on a league and cup double, but the dream crumbled at Haverigg where they were beaten by Millom in the final of the Higson Cup.

Put in by Alan Sippy, Millom were 13-2 when West Indian Travis Dowlin came to the crease. When he departed at 137 not out Furness faced a total of 243-4.

All-rounder Grgam Dawson hit 54 in support aned Wilem Du Toit took 3-54.

Although eight of the Furness side reached double figures, nobody took control and they were dismissed for 177. Gragam Dawson took 3-37.

In league action Furness collected their ninth Thwaites Beers North Lancashire and Cumbria Cricket League Premier win when beating visitors Wigton by eight wickets to stay comfortably in the lead in the title race.

Put in to bat by Alan Sippy, Wigton were dismissed for 86 in 37.5 overs, Willem Du Toit taking 6-18 in 11.5 overs with his right-arm pace, while young spinner Mark Daly registered 2-17.

Furness knocked off the required runs in 19.1 overs, with Stuart Horne 24 not out and Stuart Knox top scoring with 28 in a winning 87-2.

Cleator stayed on the leader's heels, 17 points behind, beating Haverigg by 118 runs, batting first to score 235-8, Elsroy Powell hitting 87, Paul Nelson 43 and David Clark 42.

Junie Mitcham returned 3-58 and 17-year-old Adam Redhead 3-45.

In reply Haverigg could only muster 120 with Steve Chapman hitting 62 of them, David Bell taking 4-30 and David Boots' Rooney 3-31.

Third-placed Cocker-mouth visited Lindal Moor and had to settle for a winning draw despite rattling up 293-3, Mark Bowen blasting 132 not out, Riffat Ullah 86, and Dave Watson 33 not out, Mike Hingley taking 2-69.

Lindal earned a losing draw with 155-5, Esuan Crandon scoring 58 and Jeff Smith 25 not out, Andy Jackson returning 3-31.
