HELICOPTER stopped play is one of the more unlikely insertions in the Kendal scorebook, but it was pencilled in when the side visited Barrow in the Northern League for the first time on Sunday.
There was almost a 20-minute delay when the emergency helicopter landed in the adjacent hospital grounds.
Kendal's Terry Hunte was doing his own whirling with the bat and his unbeaten 126 gave him the feat of having hit a century on all the Northern League grounds.
He thought he had done the job when hitting a ton at Lancaster earlier this season until someone reminded him that Barrow had joined the league - but he quickly put right the omission, his 126 coming off 120 balls and containing three sixes and 16 fours.
He and Kabir Khan (22) put on 96 for the third wicket and skipper David Fallows piled on the agony for Barrow with 64 off 57 balls with four sixes and five fours for a startling 289 for four off 57 overs.
Kendal kept going to the end because of the danger of Barrow professional Rawl Lewis and he showed why with his 116 in reply before he was the eighth wicket to fall with the home side on 250 but with only a couple of overs remaining.
Kendal could not remove the last wicket necessary for a victory, but with Khan taking 7-93 they came away with a deserved 11 points.
