FOOTBALL clubs around South Lakeland and Furness are set to benefit from more than 20 new coaches. Seventeen men and four women took advantage of a course run by Cartmel Community Education Centre to try for their level one Football Association coaching award.
Steve Clifton, chairman of Grange and district junior football club, said six people from the club took the chance of a free coaching qualification.
"It's been a big opportunity for us," he said. "It's been absolutely brilliant." Organiser Jude Godden said the scheme was designed to entice adults back into education, especially men between 20 and 40 years old, as well as help local clubs.
The group learned coaching techniques, first aid and child protection. The centre is hoping to run the level two qualification next year. For information on adult education around Cumbria, call 01229-894150.
