A PERFECT batting wicket allowed Netherfield to amass a formidable total of 304-3 in the derby match against Kendal at Parkside Road on BankHoliday Monday.

Gareth White led the scoring with an unbeaten 109, skipper Tommy Prime made 87 and professional Dale Benkenstein 53.

Kendal picked up the gauntlet when opener I. Ullah and Terry Hunte put on a stand of 98 for the second wicket in 16 overs.

Ullah made 70 and Hunte 64 and at one stage 19 came off a single over from pro Dale Benkenstein as Kabir Khan and Hunte threatened to cut loose.

But wickets began to tumble and Hunte's dismissal put the draw in Kendal's mind with 135 runs still needed and four wickets down.

As the light faded, Kendal tried to hold off the Netherfield attack but after Kabir Khah was caught at long-on to an injudicious stroke, Stuart Nixon returned to take two quick wickets to reduce Kendal to 199-7.

Netherfield surrounded the batsmen with a ring of fielders and captured the last three wickets with three overs to spare as Kendal were all out for 223.
