THE 17ft fleet raced for the Nomad and Gossip Cups at the weekend.
In a fickle north-easterly breeze Chas Ingham in Chameleon went ahead at the start, but there was a lot of place-changing with Mark Ormerod's Pilgrim, helmed by Graham Tullet, first round the mark at Millerground.
Six boats arrived at FBA North in close company. James Nield in Amaria emerged first, then the wind fell very light.
At Fisherfield John Curtis's Deva led by a short distance from Chameleon and held the lead to Hen Holme, closely followed by Richard and Linzi Parkinson's Falcon.
The wind went light and variable and Deva and Chameleon established a good lead.
Deva held on to her lead to finish at Fisherfield just within the time limit, followed by Chameleon and Falcon. Ameria finished fourth, second Classic boat, and Gay Crossley's Whisper made a good recovery on the last leg to finish third Classic boat.
Double success for Fiscal Folly FISCAL Folly (Frank Kelly & Doug Douglas) made the best of difficult conditions to win Saturday's RWYC Flying Fifteen race on Saturday over a North lake course.
Half of the fleet made slow but steady progress up the shorter east shore before tacking out at Millerground, while those favouring the west shore picked up a fluky breeze.
Five (David Brockbank & Rob Parfitt) fared best on the east to round Swan's Nest ahead of Zephyr (Andrew Kirk & Litton Ledger) and Fiscal Folly. Five stayed ahead over the rest of the first leg and into the beat on the starboard triangle set as the second leg.
The breeze dropped away at the windward mark at Fisherfield and Fiscal Folly did best to take a commanding lead and stayed on for a comfortable win.
Result: 1 Fiscal Folly (3731); 2 Five (3787); 3 Zephyr (3633).
Fiscal Folly (Frank Kelly & Cole Berry) had a tactical battle with Zephyr (Andrew Kirk & Carole Drury) after three laps of a North lake course.
In a fast crowed approach to FBA, Zephyr took up the lead from Flying Ferret (Terry Tinn & Nick Louw), Folly (Michael Bentley & John Barker) and Ffor Joy (Doug & Joyce Cartwright).
On the way to Millerground, Fiscal Foly came through to challenge and held on to a narrow lead.
Result: 1 Fiscal Folly (3731); 2 Zephyr (3633); 3 Five (3787).
