RESURGENT Sedgwick enjoyed a six-wicket victory over reigning champions Milnthorpe, who are struggling this year in the Cumberland View-Volkswagen Westmorland League.
Sedgwick won the toss and put Milnthorpe in and their openers made a slow start.
Middle-order batsmen S. Bowman (35) and Nathan Burr (20) steadied the ship allowing them to reach 140 before losing their final wicket after 42 overs.
Sedgwick lost opener Ian Wilson for 0, but Simon Dalzell (28) and N. Dalzell (26) brought them well into the game. With Adam Hornby making 40 and Mike Bracken 24no they reached 144-4 in 43 overs Ibis struggled against the Heysham bowling and were all out for a disappointing 89, top score of 28 coming from Ken Coulston. The wickets were shared by all four bowlers.
Heysham's innings got away to a flying start thanks to some wayward Ibis bowling.
The introduction of John Swindlehurst slowed the scoring-rate and Heysham slumped to 35-4 and a game was back on.
Youngster J. Thistle-thwaite had other ideas and, riding his luck, scored 35no to give his side maximum points on 92-4.
Bare made a respectable 139-9, but this was never going to be enough on unbeaten league leaders Warton's home ground. S. McDonald made 32 and Dave Kendall 35.
In reply it took Warton 37 overs to reach the target of 140-2 with opener Tony Barrow making 71 and No 3 Ryan Nelson 33no.
Burneside never got to grips with their home wicket and class bowling by Westgate's Peter Wilson who took 5-22 off 15 overs.
The top six batsmen made just 21 runs as Burneside were skittled out for 61 from 36 overs.
This was never going to be a problem for Westgate who knocked the runs off in 16 overs for just the loss of opener Simon Creed for18.
Neil Parkinson was 15no and man of the match Wilson 23no.
Windermere's strong start to the season continued with a three-wicket win over Shireshead.
Shireshead made a reasonable 154 all out, David Carter top-scoring with 46.
After Windermere lost opener Andrew Proctor for two, John Baines (42) and Andrew Wright (35) pushed the score along.
Windermere then lost four middle-order wickets for just 12 runs and the match was in the balance, but Joe Stephenson, batting at No 9, stuck around with Nick Lewthwaite (31no) to see the win in 35 overs at 155-7.
Arnside put one over on local rivals Silverdale with a five-wicket win.
Since losing key players over winter, Arnside have struggled in their opening programme while rivals Silverdale went into the match with two wins from three games.
Silverdale opener Adrian Raynor made 27, but the next four batsmen made just 21 between them leaving it to P. Lowe (37no) and R. Watts (23) to salvage a score of 138-7.
Arnside lost opener A. Bagley for 0 but with No 2 Adrian Lee making 72no and No 3 M. Shepherd 40 they were on track.
Three wickets then fell for just four runs, but by then Arnside were coasting to 139-5 in just 27 overs.
