KENDAL AAC Junior athletes had a medal-winning day at the Cumbria AAA Championships at Salt Ayre track in Lancaster last weekend.
With the continued unavailability of tracks within the county, this year's championship took place for the first time outside the county borders.
In the under-20 age group Claire and Katie Huck both competed in high jump and long jump.
Claire emerged as champion in the long jump, beating her sister by only 13cm with a winning jump of 4.88m.
In the high jump Claire finished with a silver medal and Katie took bronze.
Katie recorded a personal-best throw of 30.95m in the javelin which was perhaps the highest quality competition of the day.
Steven Berrie ran a sprint double, winning bronze in the 100m with a time of 11.7sec and finishing fourth in the 200m final. Rebecca Robinson and Alasdair Russell both took bronze in their 1500m finals.
James Wright ran a storming 100m hurdles race to win gold in the under-17 age group with a time of 14.5 sec and he also took a silver in the long jump with a leap of 5.64m.
Mark Anderson had a very good day in the throws, winning gold in the discus with a 32.89m personal-best.
Peter Spencer, suffering from an ankle injury was restricted to the javelin, where he achieved a 27.87m personal-best.
Chris Caulrick was among the medals in his first year in the under-13 age group .
A silver in the 200m with a time of 31.2sec was followed by bronzes in the 100m and the long jump.
Team-mate Aaron Screen overcame a mix up over the start time to win gold in the under-13 boys javelin.
Emily Cole took silver in the shot with a throw of 5.20m.
In the under-11 age group the club continues to see the potential of the next generation of young athletes coming through. Ashleigh Kennedy won a close and exciting 600m race, with her sister Georgia taking third place.
Ashleigh also won the 60m sprint with 9.6sec and picked up her third medal with a bronze in the long jump.
Georgia also won a medal in the 60m, finishing third in 9.7sec. Francesca Ward had the satisfaction of two personal-best performances in the 600m and long jump, a feat matched by Mari Cole in the long jump.
In all the young athletes had a highly successful day helped by the warm sunshine in Lancaster.
