THE second Cumbria League match took place at Salt Ayre, Lancaster, on Saturday, where the rain held off most of the day, allowing some good performances by the 22 Kendal AAC junior athletes.
Best performances on the day came from U17 boy, Peter Rhodes, now back to compete following illness. Peter recorded a triple first, in long jump (5.74m) in high jump (with a new personal best jump of 1.78m) and in the triple jump.
Also in the U17 boys age group were wins for Mark Anderson in both the discus (29.68m) and shot (10.33).
Peter Spencer recorded a personal best time of 12.1 seconds as he finished fifth in the final of the 100m sprint.
Peter also recorded a sixth place in the 200m final. James Wright was fourth as he tried a 400m race for the first time with a time of 58.3s.
Rayna Coulson best performance on the day came in the 100m sprint where a time of 14.2s gained her fourth place in the final.
Kendal's U17 boys relay team of Mark, Peter, James and Peter stormed to first position with a time of 48.9s.
Six youngsters competed in the U11 age group. Twins Ashleigh and Georgia Kennedy repeated their results from the first league match with seconds in the 70m and 600m girls finals, respectively.
Ashleigh added a well-earned 4th in the long jump. Francesca Ward gained 12th in the 600m and, along with Lauren Bowness, competed in the 70m heats.
The four girls ran a cracking 4x100m relay to record a second consecutive relay win in the League. David Spragg and Harry Oates won through to the boys 70m final, where David finished second, and Harry fourth. Harry also finished a fine third in the 600m.
Four young athletes, Chris Caulcrick, Aaron Screen, Emily Cole and Kelly Dickson competed in the U13 age group.
Chris recorded a double first, winning both the 80m sprint (11.6s with a time of 11.4 in his heat) and shot, with a throw of 6.0m. Emily also recorded a third in the shot with a throw of 5.91m.
In the U15s Imogen Reekie demonstrated her improving all-round ability with a 5th in both the 100m and long jump and 2nd in the discus.
Her team-mate Judith Burrow jumped over 4m in the long jump and gained a 4th in the 200m final. Matthew Wright achieved a personal-best time of 28.6s to finish 4th in the 200m final.
