KIRKBY Lonsdale emerged winners in a frustrating, sometimes niggling, Westmorland and Furness Cup final - which in contrast to the Trophy of the same name is run as a knock-out competition.
In a confident start, Kirkby applied early pressure and Mallaband put them ahead with a penalty.
Kirkby's try came when they charged down an attempted kick to touch following a scrum close to the Millom tryline and Barton followed up quickly for an uncoverted score that gave Kirkby an 8-0 lead in as many minutes.
Millom were well wide with a penalty chance. Then, when a Millom move broke down in midfield, Horsfall gathered to break through and a well-timed release put Anderson under the posts only for the try to be disallowed for a forward pass.
In the second half the Millom pack disrupted Kirkby and upset them enough to get three players yellow-carded.
Kirkby looked certain to score again when Barton made a swift break but the final pass went into touch.
Mallaband made several good runs from full back but could not link up with his fellow backs.
Another Millom mistake allowed Ladell to kick on and regather and chip the defence, but a Millom player dropped on the ball and it was scrambled away.
Millom had a further chance from a penalty but their kicker was out of form and though not the most exciting cup match of the season, Kirkby ended up with the cup.
