SIMON Willacy passed the magic 1,000-wicket mark as Sedgwick recorded a seven-wicket win over Silverdale in the Cumberland View-Volkswagen Westmorland League on Saturday.
He dismissed four tail-enders for just six runs as Silverdale collapsed to 94 all out. Jason Dalzell took 3-43 and George Willacy 3-27.
In reply Sedgwick made 95-3 in 20 overs, Adam Hornby the main contributor with 33.
Early pacesetters Warton beat Shireshead by five wickets in a closely fought game.
Adrian Ideson took 3-19 as Shireshead staggered to 92-7 in the 36th over. But former Warton player Nigel Cunliffe batted majestically before being dismissed by Ideson for 60, including two sixes.
Ryan Nelson's well varied off spin took 2-18 while Neil Jones (1-34) kept it tight at the end.
Paul Yates dismissed Jones (0) in the fifth over, but Tony Barrow and Ryan Nelson (20) took the score to 78-2 before Nelson was bamboozled by David Carter (3-57).
Barrow rode his luck, but hit the ball hard to make 50, including two sixes, before Carter had him caught and bowled. With Carter cleaning up Paul Weatherill (2) and Oliver dismissing Ideson (4) the game was in the balance at 86-5.
David Robinson (16 not out) survived, and with Ricky Nelson (41 not out) batting sublimely, the game finished in a flurry of boundaries.
Arnside won the toss and were fairly happy when they restricted Burneside to 123, P. Wilson the highest scorer with 36.
Arnside won the toss and put Burneside into bat. They should have been happy restricting Burneside to just 123 with P Wilson highest score with 36.
The visitors never got to grips with the total, however. Despite Adrian Richardson making 55 they fell six short of the total and were all out in 42.4 overs, Wilson taking six wickets.
Put in to bat, Heysham never got going against Bare and D. Parker, with 28, and No 10 batsmen J. Thistlethwaite, 23 not out, were the highest scorers in a total of 113-9.
Bare made a steady reply and reached their target in 36.2 overs with S. McDonald, P. Smith and G. Westworth each making 24 in a winning total of 115-5.
Reigning champions Milnthorpe could find no answers to the all-round ability of last year's runners-up Westgate and lost by 79 runs.
Westgate won the toss and chose to bat, making a good start through openers S. Creed (42) and N. Parkinson (24).
Middle-order batsmen D. Wilkinson made 39 and D. Hannigan 24.
Milnthorpe also gave away 29 extras to leave Westgate with a total of 175-6.
Openers Mike Wills (27) and Chris Baldwin (20) made a good start for Milnthorpe, but they collapsed to just 96 all out, including 20 extras.
There was frustration for Windermere on an easy-paced Queens Park wicket as they were unable to press for a win against a resilient Ibis.
Losing the toss they had to bat first and did well to post 186-8 against some accurate, if rather leg-side, bowling from Dave Johnson, who ended up with 5-45.
John Baines continued his good early season form with 50, while Mike Lewthwaite contributed a hard-hitting 43 not out at the end. Andrew Proctor and Andrew Wright also looked comfortable at the wicket.
Ibis got off to a slow start, with survival initially in mind, but gathered momentum until fielders were ringing the boundary..
The charge was headed by skipper John Coulston whose 78 included 3 sixes and 13 fours. James Whitely (20) supported the skipper with a fourth-wicket stand of 70.
It was relief for the home supporters when Coulston was finally bowled by Jonathan Cooper, leaving Ibis on 171-6 at the close. By a quirk of the points system both teams ended with four.
In Division Four, last-minute replacement Wayne Goldstein scored a new Division 4 league record score of 161 out of Netherfield's 195 runs and still was on the losing team. The other 10 Netherfield players managed just 26 runs between them with eight extras.
A club record was set by 15-year-old Shireshead 3rds bowler Ben Collins who took 9-2 from 8.2 overs despite being hampered by bowling restrictions.
In the Fourth Division Morecambe 4ths had made 21 before Collins was introduced and started with four wicket maidens in his first spell before the statutory rest to protect young players.
During Collins' rest one wicket fell and the score rose to 73-6 before he returned and took the remaining four wickets in 2.2 maiden overs.
