THE WEBB Ellis Trophy, the Rugby World Cup won by England when they beat Australia in Sydney, found its way to Kendal as part of the Sweet Chariot nation-wide tour on Saturday.
It was on display in the grounds of Queen Katherine School, off Appleby Road, for two hours in mid-morning and attracted a long queue of people who wanted to be photographed with it.
Up to 800 people were estimated to have seen the cup in Kendal. There were all ages, ranging from toddlers to senior citizens.
Qualified coaches gave youngsters a taste of the sport with drills and activities and a voluntary collection made in Kendal, Penrith and Carlisle in aid of the Wooden Spoon, the official RFU charity, raised more than £1,000 to help disabled and under-privileged children.
