THIS year's CG Ford Northern Historic Championship looks like being the best yet with the format changing to an all rally system.
There are five rounds with all the events featuring lots of special tests.
Most have non-competitive road sections, but new this year in the series is the Hexham Historic Rally, which will have simple navigational sections.
All the rallies take place in the north of England and southern Scotland and are run by some of the most experienced organisers in the country.
The promoting clubs are all members of NESCRO (North of England and Scotland Classic Rally Organisers).
There is a variety of classes covering all ages of cars and capacities right up to 1974 as well as awards for overall honours.
Current champions Stuart and Linda Cariss will be back to defend their title in the Escort RS2000 but will face tough opposition from Mini Coopers and Porsche 911s while in the pre 1959 class there should be battles between Triumph TRs and Morris Minors.
The rounds are: Berwick Classic, May 2; Cumbria Classic Caper, July 11; Devil's Own Historic Rally, Aug 8; Durham Dales, Hexham Historic Road Rally, Oct 9.
Regulations are available from: www.wigtonmc.co.uk or Graeme Forrester on 01900 825642.
On Sunday, March 28 at the Rheged Discovery Centre, Penrith, a full day's training has been organised on historic rallying.
There is a chance to learn the basics of navigation, regularity, special tests, car preparation, rules and regulations and stage rallying.
There will also be a 30-mile practical navigation exercise.
The day will cost £25 per person and will include coffee on arrival, buffet lunch, tea and biscuits before departure, plus a navigation book and full paper work. Application forms are available from www.wigtonmc.co.uk or Graeme Forrester on 01900 825642.
