GOALS by Guiseley skipper Jeremy Illingworth in the fourth and 90th minutes set the seal on Kendal Town's 12th successive defeat in the UniBond League First Division.
Despite the final score line of 4-0 to the Yorkshire side, it was overall a better performance by Town, who at least got on target this week, but had two goals disallowed.
Tony Hesketh's new look side saw Peter Smith and the industrious Dene Whittal-Williams thrust into the role of strikers, but the side had no time to settle before Illingworth found himself unmarked at the back post and tapped the ball home.
Kendal could have crumbled at the setback, but instead they produced a spirited performance only to see two decent-looking goals ruled out.
First Peter Smith was adjudged off-side when he headed home. A couple of minutes later James Sheppard netted only for the referee decide Dene Whittal-Williams had raised his foot too high in the build-up.
Frustratingly for Kendal Guiseley then broke away and Stuart scored in the 37th minutes.
Town fought back gamely in the second half and had most of the possession only to again be caught on the break, David Henry netting in the 80th minute.
When Illingworth claimed his second goal with the last kick of the game it left a 4-0 scoreline that did not reflect the balance of play.
Man of the match Dene Whittal-Williams.
Team: Lee Ward; Paul Rigby, Robert Jackson (sub James Galley 79mins), Lee Pennington (captain), Dave Woodruff; Paul Haddow (sub Tony Ubesher 82mins), Mark Melling (sub Dave Burrow 63mins), Stuart Cliff, James Sheppard; Dene Whittal-Williams, Peter Smith.
n Major steps to weld old and new players into a team were taken on Tuesday night when Kendal Town met Fulwood in a practice match and won 6-2.
Striker David Foster, who has been side-lined in recent matches scored twice to further his claim for a recall to Kendal's starting line-up.
Other goalscorers were Dean Whittal-Williams, Tony Ubesher, James Sheppard and Russ McKenna.
On Saturday Town face a tough home fixture against fourth-placed Leek Town.
Although work on the new floodlighting system has not yet been completed the lighter afternoons mean that the club can revert to the traditional 3pm kick-off for this G.B. Burrow and Sons (Removals)-sponsored match.
In addition, in a bid to boost support from youngsters, the club is offering free admission to under-16s
