FIRM underfoot conditions meant six new records were recorded in the seventh Kendal Winter League race centred on Birkrigg Common at Ulverston, writes Mike Addison.
Brothers Chris and Tom Doyle, who live in Ulverston, celebrated setting new marks in the senior men and U12 boys' races while records also tumbled in the ladies, the girls U12 and the boys and girls under 17 events.
Chris Doyle, who runs for Trafford, blazed a trail in the senior men's race to beat Ambleside's Gary Thorpe, who was first veteran, by 36 seconds. His time of 17-43 over the 3.8 miles beat the previous best time set by Tom Tipping.
Meanwhile, his brother Tom held off his Helm Hill team-mate Rory Addison to win the U12 boy's race by a slim one second margin after the pair ran virtually shoulder to shoulder on the descent.
Settle's Karen Slater found the going to her liking in the ladies race and won comfortably from Keswick's Debbie Thompson who was almost two minutes adrift.
Kendal's Alistair Russell was a clear 22-second winner over Settle's David Shepherd in the boy's U17 race while Keswick's Emily Knox beat Helm Hill's Ashleigh Tallon in the girl's U17 race.
Rossendale's Sam Tosh beat Ingleton's Ben Morphet by 13 seconds in the boy's U14 race while Broughton's Bridget Penellom secured victory in the girl's U14 race.
Helm Hill's Jenny Addison had led the U12 field up the climb but faded at the top to finish third overall in the race but still win the girl's race.
