ALL-rounder Ian David Hunter, just released by Durham, has been signed by Cumberland as a professional for next season.

Hunter, aged 24, is a former England U19 player who had been on the Durham staff for four years.

He is a right-hand bat and right medium fast bowler.

Stephen Sharp, chairman of the Cumberland selectors and team secretary, said: "Ian Hunter is an excellent signing with his experience of first-class cricket, and I am hoping his extra pace will help us to bowl out the opposition twice during matches."

Hunter, who will be also playing club cricket with Chester-le-Street, counts as a non-capped player for Cumberland.

Durham Academy director Geoff Cook said: "Ian Hunter has been through our Academy for four to five years and he was a very good athlete and bowler and will be a very useful acquisition for Cumberland. He was unlucky not to have been kept by Durham, but all the first-class counties are cutting down their staff."
