HELM Hill's Tom Tipping celebrated a third victory in the Kendal Winter League despite recent injury problems, writes Mike Addison.
Tipping won the Whitestones Race - the fifth in a series of 12 races - in a new record time of 32min 8sec and was chased over the line by his team-mate and first V40 Billy Procter who is currently the series leader.
Procter was gaining on Tipping on the final descent but could not match the Scotsman's pace on the flat finish.
The senior field of 55 men and 13 women had to contend with boggy conditions over the tops that proved strength-sapping for many.
Borrowdale's Nicola Davies won the women's race in a new record over this four-mile course, near High Newton, with Settle's Karen Slater coming in second.
Settle's David Shepherd beat Broughton's Adam Crowe by 15 seconds to secure another U17 race victory, while Rosie Parkinson continued her dominance of the girls' U17 event although she was pushed hard by Helm Hill team mate Ashleigh Tallon.
Rossendale's Sam Tosh just managed to hold off Cumberland Fell Runners' Jamie Stuart in the boys' U14 race while Broughton's Bridget Penellom took the honours in the girls' U14 race.
Helm Hill's Jonathan Wright set a new record in the boys' U12 race with team mate Tom Doyle making him work for his win while Jenny Addison set a new best-ever mark in winning the girls' U12 event.
