WHEN the much-publicised deluge of snow failed to appear in Furness, heavy and widespread rain stepped in to the breach to ensure that all local amateur soccer schedules were washed away.
BAE Systems' pitch at Hawcoat Park was playable for the match against Burnley United, but it was called off after the Burnley manager was involved in a car crash on the way to the game and his young son was rushed to Alder Hey Hospital with serious injuries.
There was no play in the AEGON West Lancashire League, the T.P. Broombys Furness Senior and Junior Cups, or the Rifleman's Garage and Premier Tiles Furness Premier League.
The draw for round one of the Ulverston Hospital Challenge Cups is: Senior Cup: Barrow AFC Reserves v Walney Island; Barrow Wanderers v Crooklands Casuals Reserves; Barrow Celtic v Bootle Reserves; Furness Rovers Reserves v Askam United Reserves; Haverigg United v BAE Systems Res; Holker Old Boys Reserves v Furness Cavaliers Reserves; Millom Reserves v Dalton United Reserves; GSK Ulverston Rangers Reserves (bye).
