IT MAY be winter out there, but school children were playing cricket this week in the first-ever Cumbria Floodlit Inter Cricket competition.
Six teams of seven took part in the competition's qualifying round and Queen Katherine School, Kendal; Millom School; Thorncliffe School, Barrow and Ulverston Victoria High School were set to contest the final stages, for the honour of becoming Cumbria champions, at the Ulverston Leisure Centre complex on Thursday.
A Kwik Cricket Competition for younger children took place last week and Dane Ghyll School, Barrow emerged as Cumbria champions by beating Croftlands School, Ulverston in the final. Also taking part were Pennington, Coniston, Grange and Penny Bridge.
The competitions were sponsored by Tony Scrogham at ICIS Sportswear, Eddie Sharp Sports and Shaun Miller/ Alan Sippy of Zipsports.
