THE Mintcakes moved six points clear of the relegation spots after they defeated Ashton Athletic 4-2 on Tuesday night.
Kendal made a bad start and were 1-0 down after just eight minutes when Zach Conway scored before Tom Kilifin equalised for the Mintcakes nine minutes later.
Steve Yawson edged Jimmy Marshall;s team in front on 22 minutes before Brandon Croskell-Robinson's goal on the stroke of half time.
Kendal created opportunities to extend their lead during the second half however Max Rogers' goal gave Ashton some hope as the tension began to build in front of a strong crowd of 145.
Tom Kilifin's second goal with just six minutes remaining in the game secured Kendal the three points.
Ashton controlled the opening eight minutes dominating possession while Kendal struggled to get into the game. Conway gave the visitors a 1-0 lead after his well-placed effort from the edge of the box went into the net.
The goal sparked Kendal into life and they soon responded. Croskell-Robinson held the ball up in the penalty box before his delivery across to Finlay Lynch saw him feed the ball onto Kilifin who fired the ball home from close range.
Kendal pushed on and found themselves 2-1 up five minutes later after a superb ball by Rob Wilson saw Yawson running into the penalty and despite a last ditch challenge by the visitor's defence, Croskell-Robinson managed to regain possession before feeding the ball back to Yawson who scored from close range.
The Mintcakes dominated and nearly made it 3-1 after Robert Parker headed the ball wide from Ryan Winder's corner before Croskell-Robinson scored on the stroke of half time after he turned in the penalty area and fired the ball into the net.
Kendal controlled the second half and nearly made it 4-1 from the restart when Finlay Lynch’s deflected effort went wide of the post while Croskell-Robinson's effort was saved at close range before Kilifin fired the rebound wide.
Kendal continued to probe after Croskell Robinson's point blank header was superbly saved by the visiting keeper on 67 minutes.
Ashton got themselves back into the game after Rogers capitalised on a mistake.
With just six minutes remaining in the game Winder's free kick from the left fell to Kilifin who headed the ball home to secure the three points.
At the weekend Kendal lost 5-3 to league leaders Vauxhall Motors on an afternoon where the Mintcakes were continouslly punished for mistakes.
Kendal dominated the visitors who were undefeated and went 1-0 up after Finlay Lynch scored however two mistakes in the space of two minutes saw Connor Harwood and Lewis Buckley edge the visitors in front.
However an own goal on the stroke of half time saw Kendal equalised and go in 2-2 at the half time interval.
Kendal were punished for a goalkeeping mistake one minute into the second half when Michael Burkey scored, before a mistake from visiting goal keeper and former Kendal Town shot stopper James McClenaghan saw Steve Yawson fire the ball into the net as the game was all square at 3-3.
Vauxhall Motors pushed on and pulled the game away from Kendal after goals by Thomas Mitchell and a second from Buckley secured the win for the league leaders.
Kendal are in Macron Cup action on Saturday when they travel to play Atherton LR before hosting Keswick in The County Cup on Tuesday night.
