KENDAL Town crashed to their third consecutive league defeat after they lost 2-1 to promotion contenders Clitheroe at The Parkside Road Stadium.
The Mintcakes who have now lost their last three games by the same score played well and went 1-0 up after Yvez Zama scored on 32 minutes.
However, second half goals from player manager Billy Priestley and a good goal by Zac Clarke with just ten minutes left saw the visitors come back from behind as Kendal suffered more frustration as they remained second from bottom in the table.
Kendal keen to bounce back from a disjointed performance against Warrington Rylands defended well during the opening stages while Clitheroe applied the pressure.
The visitors who themselves had defeated Marine 2-0 in their previous game played with confidence and created an early opportunity on 4 minutes when Jake Connelly chased a high ball forward by Jack Burrows before Oliver Lombard in the Kendal goal rushed off his line to head the ball away from the area.
Clitheroe continued to control the opening stages with Burrows fired his effort wide of the post, while Oliver Lombard pushed Ross Dents effort away for a corner.
After 28 minutes a poor backwards header by a Kendal defender left Sefton Gonzales with a clear run-on goal before being thwarted by Oliver Lombard.
However, Kendal opened the scoring four minutes later after Yvez Zama was played in on goal before firing the ball across Chris Thompson in the Clitheroe goal as the ball nestled in the bottom left-hand corner of the net.
Kendal missed a glorious chance to double their lead at the start of the second half after Eric Yahaya laid the ball off too Mambwe Chilufya who saw his goal bound effort saved by Chris Thompson.
Clitheroe equalised moments later when a Cole Lonsdale corner from the right was met by a stooping Billy Priestley who directed a firm header into the net from six yards.
Clitheroe thought they had taken the lead after Ross Dent fired the ball home from a Sefton Gonzalez header across the area however the offside flag came to Kendal’s rescue as the goal was ruled out.
Kendal regained their composure and started to frustrate the visitors with a solid defensive display, however Clitheroe were at that stage taking control of the game.
However, Kendal fell behind with just ten minutes left after Zac Clarke picked up the ball close to the left touchline and outpaced Tom Fagan before cutting inside as he lifted the ball over Lombard in the Kendal goal as Clitheroe went 2-1 up.
Kendal pushed late into the game, with Tom Fagan blazing the ball over from distance as the visitors saw out the game to secure victory while Kendal slumped to defeat.
