ERIC Yahaya’s hat trick guided Kendal Town to their first league win of the season after they defeated Prescot Cables 4-3 on Tuesday night.
The Mintcakes despite the close nature of the scoreline were worthy winners in a game where they largely dominated and created chances.
However lapses in concentration at the start of the second half as well as in the closing stages almost allowed Prescot back into a game in which they were never really in contention.
Kendal started the game on the front foot and dominated possession before opening the scoring after 15 minutes when a pin point cross into the penalty area was headed into the top right hand corner by Eric Yahaya who rose the highest before heading the ball into the net.
Prescot offered very little going forward as Kendal continued to press and play at a high tempo which the visitors struggled to deal with and if anything Kendal created more chances with Eric Yahaya, and Greg Mc Caragher going close.
However, Kendal were able to mount a further attack and make it 2-0 after Yahaya went clean through on goal fired the ball past the Prescot keeper.
Kendal forced numerous saves out of the Prescot shot stopper.
But the visitors were unable to create anything of significance to threaten debutant goalkeeper Oliver Lombard.
Lombard's performance was praised during his debut.
The Mintcakes were seemingly out of sight on 39 minutes.
It was at this Jack Milburn turned a defender inside out within the penalty area.
He was then able to fire his shot but was parried by the visiting keeper and into the path of Greg McCaragher.
McCaragher then took the opportunity to finish the job by firing the ball home from close range.
Prescot reacted at the start of the second half and launched the ball in from a corner where Leon Johnson scored.
The visitors buoyed by the goal pressed Kendal back and forced numerous corners and deliveries into the area which the Town defence had to scramble clear.
However Kendal regained their composure before Yahaya went clean through on goal as he completed his hat trick on 72 minutes.
Prescot battled back scoring two quick fire goals through James Mc Culloch and Martyn Jackson on the 89th and 90th minute as Kendal were under unlikely pressure in injury time.
Unfortunately, Kendal Town bowed out of the FA Cup after losing 1-0 to Warrington Town, where Matty Grivostis goal on 51 minutes proved to be enough where Kendal played well.
Burnley Under 23 goalkeeper Sam Waller was in goal for Kendal as he made a penalty save to deny the visitors a goal.
