KENDAL Town picked up a memorable 1-0 win at Glossop North End as they progressed into the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup before losing 2-1 to Ramsbottom United on Tuesday night at Parkside Road.
Chris Humphrey’s squad showed great character and played some skilful football in their win at Glossop.
Eric Yahaya’s penalty midway through the first half proved to be the difference.
Furthermore, Morgan Bacon pulled off some outstanding saves as Kendal face Warrington Town in the next round on Saturday 4 September.
However, Tuesday night’s 2-1 defeat to Ramsbottom United saw Kendal pick up just one point from three league games on a night where the Mintcakes created some good chances in a game but they were unfortunately not able to take a point by the end.
In Saturday’s game at Glossop Kendal were put under some early pressure by the hosts before the referee awarded Kendal a penalty midway which Eric Yahaya fired into the net.
Yahaya, Greg McCaragher and Yves Zama looked a constant threat while Glossop were denied by some goo goalkeeping by Bacon alongside a strong Kendal defence who were forced into action, clearing some chances off the line.
Kendal did well but had to hold on especially in the last ten minutes as they now play Warrington Town on Saturday 4 September.
However, on Tuesday night Kendal were up against a determined Ramsbottom Team who had lost out to Barnoldswick in the FA Cup.
Ramsbottom started well without causing too many problems while Morgan Bacon made a couple of comfortable saves.
Kendal missed the best chance of the half when Eric Yahaya went clean through on goal before curling the ball wide of the right hand post.
Both teams probed and attacked as the game opened up with the scores level at half time.
Kendal came out fighting and nearly scored at the start of the second half.
The attack caught Ramsbottom off guard.
They responded by opening the scoring when Jake Thompson slotted the ball into the left hand corner after collecting a through ball from Darius Waldron.
The visitors were able to extend their lead on 65 minutes after Jake Murphy curled the ball into the right hand side beating Morgan Bacon at the near post.
Chris Wraighte was able to put Kendal right back into the game with five minutes left.
He followed a good finish past the keeper and Kendal pressed on before Ramsbottom were able to resist their chances and momentum for the win.
The game was hard fought and those in attendance were kept in suspense at its possible outcome.
Next Kendal will be travelling to 1874 Northwich this Saturday.
They will next be hosting a game against Colne on the Bank Holiday Monday.
