KENDAL Town are all set for Saturday’s season opening game with Glossop North End after they concluded a positive preseason campaign after drawing 1-1 with Lancaster City’s Under 23’s on Tuesday night.
The Mintcakes fielded two different teams in each half where player manager Chris Humphrey worked with a squad of 20 against a very strong Lancaster City team who had a number of first team players within their starting 11.
Kendal started the game well and demonstrated some of the football they have been playing over preseason as they applied a lot of pressure onto Lancaster City.
However, despite the positive intent, it was Lancaster who opened the scoring after capitalising on a defensive mistake in the box.
Kendal was able to recover from the early set back and mount a comeback.
They soon equalised from the penalty spot following a foul in the area by one of the Lancaster players.
One of Kendal’s newest recruits stepped up to the mark and clinically blasted home the spot kick past the Lancaster keeper who had dived the right way.
The impressive goal put the game in a new light.
Kendal continued to play with full energy and applied pressure creating more chances during a largely positive first half.
Chris Humphrey then brought on a different team for the second half, with the likes of Greg Mc Caragher, Hugo Rodriguez, Shaun Gardner, and Tom Fagan all featuring.
Kendal forced the visiting keeper into a few saves and looked fit and strong for the remainder of the game as they round off a positive preseason campaign.
The Mintcakes will announce all of their new signings after Saturday’s home game against Glossop North End.
However, prior to Saturday’s game Kendal will be hosting an open training session on Thursday night at the ground where former Preston North End striker Jermaine Beckford will be taking a special one-off training session with the teams’ strikers.
Beckford who was invited down by Chris Humphrey will be at the ground from around 7pm.
Kendal then moves onto Saturday’s season home opener against Glossop North End who themselves defeated Widnes 3-0 in the FA Cup preliminary round last week before Kendal travel to play Bootle on Tuesday night.
