WINDERMERE Motor Boat Racing Club has been granted an exemption to the lake speed limits in order to host a new series of races.
These will take place in front of Broad Leys, south of Storrs Hotel, over four Saturdays from June to September.
The dates for the races that have already been confirmed are June 19, July 20, September 11 and 25.
The special events will see the club getting an exemption from the normal speed limit on the waters. Normally there is a ten nautical miles per hour speed limit on Windermere, but on some stretches it is six miles per hour.
The club has stated: "WMBRC is steeped in the history of power boat racing and many of the great racing legends sich as Donald Campbell, Sir Malcolm Campbell and Sir Henry Seagrave have been involved in the club since it was established in 1925.
"Having had a year off due to the pandemic everyone is raring to go and there will be many boats from up and down the country coming to race together there will be five races on each day commencing at 12pm.
"The club welcomes lake users to come along and watch from the safety of their own boats outside of the racing circuit, which is marked by patrol boats with blue flags."
Since restrictions were lifted the lake has seen a return to form by the boat club and has already put on several racing events since being permitted to do so.
