THE Mintcakes came off from a difficult game in a losing effort to Marine FC.
Kendal Town suffered a goalless defeat at Parkside Road, seeing a 4-0 win for visiting team.
This game marked Marine’s return to league action on Saturday afternoon.
Goals came from Jay Devine and Josh Hmami, and two courtesy of Neil Kengni.
Kendal, who played their first competitive league match since lockdown, were defensively solid in the first half of the game, much to the frustration of the visitors.
However, a turning of the tide in the second half saw Kendal Town let the four goals slip past them on the damp and dreary match day.
After Marine scored their first goal midway through the second half Kendal found a recovery difficult to complete as they suffered their second consecutive league defeat.
Both Teams made a tentative start to the game where they struggled to create many real opportunities on goal.
Marine, who face an exciting FA Cup Third Round tie with Spurs, began to take over possession and created the majority of the opportunities.
The most notable chance came from set pieces where Morgan Bacon pushed away Josh Hmamis’ free kick, while James Barrigan’s corner struck the crossbar.
The visitors continued to dominate, before James Shaw saw his long-distanced effort drift wide before Bacon pushed the ball away from Anthony Miley before the half time break.
As the weather turned grey, so did the situation on the field.
Marine controlled the second half and pinned Kendal back on a heavy pitch with James Barrigan directing his header wide of the post.
Despite the pressure Kendal continued to fight on.
However, the visitors opened the scoring on 58 minutes after Niall Cummins laid the ball off to James Devine who slotted the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
Kendal were rarely able to threaten the Marine goal with Hugo Rodriguez and Jamie Armstrong both trying to pose more of a goal threat against a very strong visiting defence.
Despite repeated attempts they were unable to break the visitor's line.
Marine doubled their lead after 75 minutes when Josh Hmami ran from his own half before slotting the ball into the net.
The visitors went onto make it 3-0 soon after when Adam Hughes’s effort on goal was parried by Bacon into the path of Neil Kengni who tapped the ball before Kengni scored his second and the visitors fourth in injury time as Kendal slumped to defeat.
Kendal showed lots of endeavour however the lack of threat in front of goal as well as a poor second half performance raises concerns for Chris Humphrey where his team would have travelled to Clitheroe on Tuesday Night, before facing another away game at Colne on Boxing Day.
