THE FIRST round of The Benevolent Trophy got underway in a dramatic afternoon of action.
The Westmorland League Division One Team Penrith Reserves pulled off a shock 1-0 victory over Kendal United from West Lancashire League Division Two.
Kendal, who had previously won the Benevolent Trophy back in 2018, missed a lot of chances before Penrith pushed them out for the win.
Haydon Wilson stood out by scoring with a close-range finish to secure the win for his team.
In the other first round ties, defending trophy holders Wetheriggs United battled into the next round after they defeated Appleby 5-3.
Martyn Coleman scored a hat trick while John Murrays’ brace secured the win in a repeat of previous season’s final play off.
Cory Robinsons’ brace eased Ibis into the next round where they defeated Kirkby Stephen 2-0, while Endmoor won 4-2 at Ullswater United with Chris Bell scoring twice as Steve Bowman’s team edged into the next round.
Three games were played in James Cropper Westmorland League Division One.
In the shock of the afternoon Kirkoswald defeated Keswick 2-1.
Reece Simpson and Niall Renwick securing the win.
Windermere won 3-0 at Sedbergh and Dent United.
Marsh United saw off Shap with some impressive play that brought about a 4-1 result.
In Division Two included Greystoke defeating league leaders AFC Carlisle by 2-1.
Ambleside United routed Appleby Reserves with a hard fought 5-2 contest.
Cartmel and District Reserves won by the same score after they defeated Kendal County Reserves.
Keswick Reserves edged out Sedbergh and Dent United Reserves 2-1.
Joshua Fords brace and a goal from Matt Harby helped Ibis Reserves to a 3-3 draw at Penrith Academy.
Burneside were able to come back from being 2-1 down to defeat Windermere Reserves by 3-2.

The game saw Jay Hayton scoring twice, while Scott O Callaghan also appearing on the score sheet.
Eden Thistle defeated Kendal United’s A Team 4-1 in Division Three.
Goals came courtesy from Luke Dalzell, Aiden Dent and Nathan Chambers. They edged Endmoor KGR Reserves to a 3-2 win at Staveley United Reserves.
In the final game of this week's league play offs Langwathby United defeated Eden United by four goals to two.
