WHILE the Westmorland Football League season came to an early finish, the interest in the league is as strong as ever.
Carleton Banks are among one of several teams that are keen to comeback while Lunesdale United will be making their return after having last season off.
Several teams have expressed interested in joining the league as soon as the season is able to get underway.
Westmorland League secretary Ron Wilkinson said: “For the first time in a number of years we have had a lot of interest from new teams to join.
“Lunesdale United are certainties, while Carleton Banks have also applied to join.
“However there has been talks of Kirkby Stephen Reserves, Burneside Reserves and Coniston all putting teams in and three teams from The North Lancashire League have also expressed interest, in Cartmel, Carnforth Rangers and Marsh United."
The league will make a decision once they are permitted to hold their AGM which has been delayed due to the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic.
They seek to make a decision as soon as possible.
The Westmorland Football Association is also hoping to complete the Senior Cup, Junior Cup and Benevolent Trophy Finals from the 2019/20 season for whenever it is declared safe to do so in regards to the current lockdown.
The Westmorland League is also looking for a new secretary and if anyone is interested contact Mr Wilkinson on 01539 725863.
