EMIL Jaaskelainen has provided a big boost to Kendal Town by extending his loan spell with the club until January.
Mintcakes boss Steve Edmondson said the move had been agreed with the player's parent club Blackpool this week and he was delighted to secure the services of the striker for a longer period.
"Emil has been fantastic at the club so far and I'm very pleased to have him here," he said of the 18-year-old, who is the son of former Bolton Wanderers and West Ham keeper Jussi.
"I can't speak too highly of him.
"He has shown what a good player he is but what has impressed me just as much is his attitude and commitment.
"He's been great for us so far and playing in this league will help him to learn the game and will toughen him up a bit, so it's a great arrangement for all parties."
And Edmondson has further added to the ranks this week by clinching the signing of Aaron Fleming.
The former Bamber Bridge striker has had a previous spell with Town and has returned to the club after most recently appearing for North West Counties League outfit AFC Darwen.
In addition, keeper Morgan Bacon, who has impressed between the sticks in recent games, has confirmed his move from Marine.
And that may not be the end of the new additions as Edmondson said he was keen to further boost the squad, possibly with loan signings.
The postponement of Tuesday evening's home Bet Victor League clash against high flying Ramsbottom United has meant an enforced break in the season for Town.
They also have a blank date on Saturday as scheduled opponents Tadcaster Albion are involved in the FA Trophy, and the Mintcakes will only return to action a week on Saturday, October 5, when they host Droylsden in a league game.
But Edmondson said he had complaints about the period of inactivity as he said it allows time for a much needed interlude after a hectic opening few weeks of the campaign.
"It's come at the right time really," said the Mintcakes chief.
"We've played 10 or 11 games in quick succession so it's been quite tough and it gives us a chance to regroup."
And despite some disappointing reverses which have left Town struggling near the foot of the table, Edmondson said the spirit in the camp remained excellent and he was relishing the challenges ahead.
"What we needed most of all was some stability at the club and we're getting that now," he explained.
"That stability is returning and the spirit in the squad and at the club in general is great.
"We just hope the supporters and the town will get behind us and help take us forward."
