DAVE Clark has quit as head coach of Askam, citing personal reasons for his decision.
The former Barrow skipper and coach stepped down after Saturday's 30-16 home defeat against East Leeds.
Clark, who was in his second spell at Fallowfield Park, leaves the club with them at the foot of National Conference League Division Two.
"My personal life at present makes it difficult to be fully committed," said Clark, adding: "I wont be leaving the game as I have recently taking up refereeing.
“I saw an email from Terry Barker looking for new recruits and I offered my services. It will be interesting to see what life is like on the other side.
“I would consider any (coaching) offers if they come along but for the time being I will be focused on refereeing. I believe my knowledge in the game will help me along.
"I have really enjoyed myself at Askam; last year we were successful in the league and won the Barton Townley Cup which was special. I have coached so many good players at the club and seen many of the young kids come through to senior level.”
Clark added: “I had a new employment opportunity in September last year. I went from a school setting to a residential setting.
"I have to work shifts so this has conflicted with my rugby coaching. I'm unable to attend some training sessions and matches on some weekends, and I can't commit to the level I wish to.”
Clark had many good years as a player at Craven Park and after winning promotion in 2009 he led the team as coach into the final of the Northern Rail Cup, only to lose to Widnes 18-34.
However, his side won the Championship Grand Final, beating Halifax 26-18 at Warrington.
