A YOUNG Sedbergh athlete has completed an incredible clean sweep of four national titles in one year.
Fraser Sproul, 12, who attends Casterton, Sedbergh Preparatory School, competed at the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham, at the National Prep school track and field championships.
He was competing in the Y7 1500 metres.
Sproul was hoping to complete the remarkable feat having already won the English Schools fell and cross country titles, and the National Prep school cross country.
He set off in his usual manner, front running. He was overtaken at 500 metres for around a 100 metres, before taking the lead again, slowly pulling away, and then over the last lap extending his lead to 6 seconds, as he finished in a new personal best of 4 minutes 40.18 seconds.
Headmaster Scott Carnochan said: "To be a national champion four times over in one season, in three specialist types of middle distance running, is truly remarkable. We are very proud of Fraser and the commitment he shows in his running and in all aspects of school life.”
