WEST Cumberland OC members dominated the sixth round on the Cumbria Inter-club League, at Dalegarth, Eskdale, on Sunday.
The courses started and finished in the fields and woodlands on the south side of the valley with the longer courses taking in more extensive loops across the fell land above.
This marshy area is interspersed with more complex drier ridges and demands a different approach to navigating through the fields and woodland.
Several of the Lakeland's members from Ulverston Victoria High School were not at the event and West Cumberland demonstrated that they now have a growing number of good juniors, as a result of their schools programme by taking five of the six podium places on the yellow and orange courses.
Lakeland Orienteering Club's successes came on the light green course, where juniors Martin McIver and Nathan Metcalfe took first and second places with Rosie Watson (WCOC) third.
Lakeland's Alison Fryer had an excellent run to take third on the popular green course which pitted older juniors against seniors.
Senior, Richard Tiley was second on the blue Course and on the brown Michael McIver and Chris Heppenstall, fourth and fifth respectively, did well to stay within six minutes of former international Martin Bagness (WAROC) and consistent Michael Billinghurst (WCOC).
Next Thursday Lakeland OC will round off its series of events for primary school children in the woods adjacent to Cartmel racecourse (3.30pm - 4pm). On Wednesday the summer evening series of events, where beginners are welcome, continues at Tarn Hows. Starts from 6pm to 7pm.
