PRESTON North End look ready to agree to an attractive, crowd-pulling visit to play Kendal Town.
Town secretary Craig Campbell told the Gazette that manager Lee Ashcroft was close to confirming the pre-season friendly with the Championship side.
"It is 90 per cent certain at this stage that Preston will be coming.
"Preston manager Paul Simpson knows Lee (Ashcroft) and has promised a good side of mainly first-teamers," he said.
The details and dates of all the pre-season fixtures, including other possible games with Everton, Stockport County and Lancaster, will be confirmed at the club's business meeting on Wednesday.
One of the main items on the agenda will be interviews for the position of Town's revamped Reserves team, which is to play in the Lancil Lancashire League from the start of next season.
Several applicants have come forward after the news that the team was being withdrawn from the Westmorland League's first division.
Meanwhile, Town are also seeking a new commercial manager.
Mr Campbell said: "The job suits someone with a sales background preferably, who wants to make a bit of money. They should be interested in trying to push the club's profile forward financially and in making strong links with local organisations and businesses."
Anyone interested in the post can contact Mr Campell on 07980 660428.
Any incentive Town may need to stay in the Premier Division of the Unibond League came with the restructuring of the First Division, which has been split into two new north and south sections of 18 clubs apiece.
The original aim was for 20 clubs in each section, and the shortfall means there will be probably a round-robin competition to fill out the fixture list.
