BARROW came to Netherfield sitting on top of the Northern League on Saturday but after 10 overs they had only scored a meagre 12 runs, such was the respect they showed to World Cup bowler Charl Langeveldt.
While Langeveldt's pace and accuracy tied down the visitors, Netherfield skipper Scott Clement went on to eclipse his professional in the scorebook with an impressive return of 5-22.
Nevertheless, Lange-veldt struck a key blow with the dismissal of Barrow danger-man, the professional Pasan Wanasinghe.
The Sri Lankan was looking set to launch an onslaught when he was fourth wicket down, holing out to Peter Lawson at mid-off for his side's top score of 47.
Barrow set about rebuilding and Chris D'Leny (32) and Ian Kermode (20) supplied 41 for the sixth wicket to lift their fortunes from 93-5 to 134-6.
But with overs diminishing fast, the visitors were dismissed for 152 with eight balls of the innings remaining. Langevelt finished with 2-57 off 19 overs and Marc Hadwin 2-25 off 11 overs.
Netherfield showed no reticence in pushing the scoring along in their innings and had 40 up after 10 overs and 79 before the first wicket fell.
Opener Craig Walmsley remained unbeaten on 86 and sound contributions from Ryan Brown (32) and Chris Parry (26) carried them to an eight-wicket win at 157-2 in 31 overs.
