JOHN Trewenneck, Kendal's skipper, said: "Thirty points from the Bank Holiday and top of the league - you could not want for more.
"The derby match on Bank Holiday Monday was something special.
"They're unique clashes and a lot of the time it's about mental strength and who wants it more, and I think that's what it came down to on this occasion.
"Everything we tried came off and the big positive for me was the desire we showed.
"We play with a smile but play it hard, but importantly we showed we have the resolve to back up our abilities.
"What a player Terry Hunte is. He played World Cup bowler Charl Langeveldt superbly and Langeveldt is a consummate professional and a clever bowler.
"The derby was full of little incidents that make it unique - there's nothing like it in the Northern League, and for young players it''s a great learning experience.
"Now whether we can maintain the consistency to make it a title challenge is the sixty-four thousand dollar question, but winning is a habit.
"I can tell you our professional Graeme Aldridge is one of us - he's a Kendalian when he pulls that sweater on and he bowled his heart out.
The same can be said of Kevin Howarth, he's not been bowling regularly because an injury problem, but he can perform at this level and he fancied it along with all the lads.
"Against Chorley on Saturday, we demontrated we can post big totals.
"When we bowled, Ben Simm showed me he is hungry to get wickets and to play outside of the comfort zone and he got his reward."
Netherfield skipper Scott Clement said: "It was an interesting derby game and one that we should have won.
"The senior players at the club have got to hold up their hands and take responsibility "In the end our batters didn't do their job and we have to knuckle down and play more sensibly, rotating the strike more with ones or twos rather than relying on hitting the four-ball.
"I've never seen Chris Parry get out to a hook shot before and Mark Daly's run-out was a big turning-point, but against Kendal it's a different mindset and players are affected.
"On Saturday, we knocked off 155 with two down to beat Barrow and it was no problem.
"You don't win the title after a handful of matches, and at the end of July we'll have a better picture of how things are going.
"We have still got a match in hand and if we win that, we'd be a point off top spot.
"Charl (Langeveldt) showed he has high energy levels and great accuracy with his bowling, and he's a bubby character in the dressing-room and good fun, a great addition to the squad.
"Our other bowlers will benefit as opposing batsmen try to make runs elsewhere because they know they will not get any change out of him.
"With three away matches coming up, we've got to put the Kendal result behind us and move on."
