*Windermere........211-7 Ibis............................99 WASHED out by the rain on Saturday, Windermere got back to winning ways at home to Ibis in the Hackney & Leigh Cup on Sunday.

Batting first, Windermere proceeded cautiously against the ever-accurate Dave Johnston, who conceded only four runs from his five over allocation.

Against the other bowlers, however, the home batsmen flourished, with big-hitting Jonathan Cooper (67) and Sam Fletcher (44) top scorers.

Amazingly, 102 runs came from the last six overs and a total of 211-7 was always likely to be a challenge for the visitors.

Ibis were given a reasonable start by Spencer Sampson (21) and Andy Earl (10), who put on 31 in good time, but two run-outs disrupted the rhythm of the innings, and thereafter wickets fell at regular intervals.

All the Windermere bowlers performed well, supported by competent fielding, with Nick Lewthwaite (2-12) and Mike Crawford (2- 7) returning the best figures. Finally the visitors subsided to 99 all out.

Westgate.................146 *Milnthorpe................94 THIS Hackney and Leigh Cup match was about strength in depth, as both sides lacked first choice players.

In the event Milnthorpe felt the lack of the likes of Mike Wills and Bob Baldwin more than Westgate missed Steve Creed and Danny Wilkinson.

Having won the toss Westgate got off to an excellent start with a stand of 57 from Peter Wilson (34) and Andrew Hill, but a fine over from Milnthorpe youngster J. Matthews (4-43) then sent all Westgate's top three back to the pavilion.

Shane Dixon (5-28), another second team youngster, then took two wickets in his first over and Westgate had collapsed to 63-5.

Saeed Patel and Mark Lightfoot rescued the position with a stand of 41 and, with the help of numerous extras, Westgate managed to reach 146 all out.

Milnthorpe looked in charge as their innings reached 50-2, but on a deteriorating pitch they then slide to 55-6 as Wilson took 4-7.

Sergeant Bowman (19) provided late resistance before Milnthorpe slid to defeat on 94 all out.
